An Ode To the Box "R" Ranch by: Jorine Seale I Have a Second Home Halfway between Tomball and Heaven, at the Lozier’s Box R Ranch, Is where I go for a week or so, whenever I get the chance. When I pick up my bags in Jackson, I leave my worries behind, And visit my second family. (I choose them to be “kin folks of mine’.) I get hugs and cussed at, good food, new jokes and lessons of all kinds. I see friends I can see in no other place and every year new ones I find. I’ll always be grateful to the Box R, they sent me the love of my life. They told Harlie to take a few lessons, and he took himself a wife. There’s a horse waiting for me named Sawyer, who I appreciate more every year. I hope that other folks who ride him, never learn all the secrets we share. He’s helped me learn about “cowboying,” gopher holes and changing weather, humility in a bog, resting during “motherin’ up”, eating our lunch together. I’ve seen vistas from the top of a mountain, that I never dreamed I’d get to see, looking down at flowers, jumped up moose and elk, who where just as surprised as me. Watched sunlight dance in the quakies, gathered momma cows in the snow, shouted over the roar of falling water, on it’s way to Green Valley below. I’ve ridden in places my Indian ancestors may have trod, and set quietly on a mountain top and heard the voice of God. Which is not so surprising with Heaven so near. And I thank the Lord and the Lozier's, that my second home is here. Jorine Seale (June 17, 1995) The Ranch A ranch sits hidden miles in the mountain. With horses and antelope too many for countin. The dogs come a runnin, not stranger's they meet, They'll bark, look and listen, then set at your feet. Ole' Irv's on the porch his head he does nod. Acknowledging entrance to his paradise from God. Saddle up ya'll a ridin we'll do, We'll go find the cattle and rope us a few. Then sore and tired to the ranch we will head, Eat up the fixin's then head on to bed. Again at the daylight, another day comes with a life time of memories, good people, and good fun. To you all my new friends adios I will say But to Irv and the ranch another day I will stay! Thanks for the memories! The hard head. Toni Hardesty |
