An Ode To the Box "R" Ranch  by:         Jorine Seale

         I Have a Second Home

Halfway between Tomball and Heaven, at the Lozier’s Box R Ranch, Is where I go for a week or so, whenever I get the chance.

When I pick up my bags in Jackson, I leave my worries behind, And visit my second family. (I choose them to be “kin folks of mine’.)

I get hugs and cussed at, good food, new jokes and lessons of all kinds.

I see friends I can see in no other place and every year new ones I find. I’ll always be grateful to the Box R, they sent me the love of my life. They told Harlie to take a few lessons, and he took himself a wife.

There’s a horse waiting for me named Sawyer, who I appreciate more every year. I hope that other folks who ride him, never learn all the secrets we share. He’s helped me learn about “cowboying,” gopher holes and changing weather, humility in a bog, resting during “motherin’ up”, eating our lunch together.

I’ve seen vistas from the top of a mountain, that I never dreamed I’d get to see, looking down at flowers, jumped up moose and elk, who where just as surprised as me. Watched sunlight dance in the quakies, gathered momma cows in the snow, shouted over the roar of falling water, on it’s way to Green Valley below.

I’ve ridden in places my Indian ancestors may have trod, and set quietly on a mountain top and heard the voice of God. Which is not so surprising with Heaven so near. And I thank the Lord and the Loziers, that my second home is here.

The Ranch

A ranch sits hidden miles in the mountain.  With horses and antelope too many for countin.  The dogs come a runnin, not stranger's they meet, They'll bark, look and listen, then set at your feet. Ole' Irv's on the porch his head he does nod.  Acknowledging entrance to his paradise from God.  Saddle up ya'll a ridin we'll do, We'll go find the cattle and rope us a few.  Then sore and tired to the ranch we will head, Eat up the fixin's then head on to bed.  Again at the daylight, another day comes with a life time of memories, good people, and good fun.  To you all my new friends adios I will say But to Irv and the ranch another day I will stay!

Thanks for the memories!  The hard head. Toni Hardesty

COME TO WYOMING

The Lozier's Box "R" Ranch is a true Western Wyoming working ranch, to which gracious guest ranch accommodations have  been carefully added. Our ranch vacations are designed for you to enjoy virtually unlimited horseback riding holidays, with liberties and freedoms not normally found on other western ranches. We are not a typical dude ranch, nor a horseback riding resort.  Our cavvy of 75 horses are working ranch horses. They are not stable horses, thus nose-to-tail riding is strongly discouraged. An interest in horses, riding and western ranch life is paramount to obtaining the utmost enjoyment during your cowboy vacation in this beautiful and remote mountain area.

The Lozier's Box "R" Ranch is just 60 miles south of Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Teton National Park. It is surrounded on three sides by the awesome Bridger Wilderness Area. We are just thirty miles north of the Oregon Trail and our Nation's largest Wild Horse herd. Just 90 miles from of Yellowstone Park in the heart of Wyoming's Cattle Ranch country, Unlike most dude ranches, the Lozier's Box "R" Ranch runs 175 to 250 range cattle on over 26,000 acres of deeded and leased lands, in the Green River Valley and amidst our Nations (largest) Bridger Wilderness Area. Thus eliminating the need to feed and confine our livestock.

Basically, the Lozier's Box "R" Ranch offers five types of western ranch vacations from June through September. We begin our season by offering our COWBOY   CAMPS .  Then in June we have our SPRING  CATTLE  DRIVES.  In July and August our SUMMER  HORSEBACK   RIDING  VACATIONS are everyone's  favorite. In September,  we all enjoy our FALL  ROUND-UPS  and  ASPEN  COLORS RIDES We host a maximum of 20 Adult Only Ranch Guests and offer two very Special Family Vacation Weeks.

Most of our ranch vacations and horseback holidays are from Sunday to Saturday, with exception of a few three day short stays offered during selected weeks. (See Rates and Scheduled Dates)

Upon your arrival, you will be assigned your own private and personal horse and tack for the week. All of our vacations are “lightly” regimented and structured around ranch life, tending ranch chores, raising and working cattle, working new ranch horses and designed for YOU to enjoy this beautiful piece of Heaven with us and our other wonderful ranch guests. Experienced cowboy wranglers will teach you all the "Cowboy Tricks" to: handling and caring for your hoss’, saddling and bridling, efficient-effective mounting and dismounting techniques, managing a trot or gallop, riding in the open range, and how you can work with your four legged partner to create a synchronized,  productive team.

This is where YOU can relax, enjoy and cherish the peace and tranquility of our remote ranch location. Imagine YOURSELF here, no highways, no traffic, no vehicles, no noise, a good horse and austere silent nights for (6) days straight!  If a weeks visit is beyond your constraints, check into our three day visits.

Our goal is for all our guests to experience a true western working ranch, from cowboy horsemanship to assisting us and our neighbors with our cattle and horse operation. YOU will be feeling like you are part of our cowboy crew upon departure. We can help make YOUR cowboy dreams come true.

Come Step into a pair of Cowboy Boots , Straddle a good Horse & Live that Dream of being a Cowboy/Cowgirl

Irv, I think this is Barb and I's fifth visit in the last ten or twelve years. We have traveled a lot recently, rode our motorcycles all over the country and found many unique places. We have not found anything that compares to the peaceful, easy going atmosphere here at the Box "R". Both of us really enjoy the wide variety of privileges we get to share with you and your crew. We had such a great time and such a wonderful group on the Spring Cowboy Camp, we'd like a reservation for the same week and same cabin for next year.  Thanks again: Larry and Barb Walters, Geneseo, IL

True hospitality since 1900 !! Between 1857 and 1898, Irvin M. Lozier and his father, Levi, made many visits to the Wyoming territory. In 1900, Irvin M. and his wife Lizzie homesteaded their small ranch in a beautiful and remote mountain valley at the foot of the Wind River Mountains, where the ranch still stands today. Here they started a ranching and hunting business. During that time, Irvin met, guided for, and became good friends with the world renowned wildlife painter and German artist, Carl Rungius. Some of his works still hangs in the ranch house today for you to enjoy. The Lozier's Box "R" Ranch  has operated under the same ownership for three generations. Since 1972, Irv Lozier has operated the ranch, as his parents Walt and Nancy did, with true respect and love for the land, Wyoming’s wildlife and his family’s heritage.

We are pleased to announce that our “optional” Basic Horsemanship Clinics have received rave reviews since induction three years ago. These clinics are offered in conjunction with our Summer Ranch Riding Vacation “adult only” weeks. There are a limited number of true working cattle / horse guest ranches where you can gain an education, acquire the confidence and enlightenment of your horseback riding experiences while adding to the enjoyment of vacationing in Wyoming’s true western open range cattle country.

We are very excited about the possibility of sharing many pleasurable memories and new friendships with you here in Wyoming.
